VIC buttons vs. Browser buttons

Each page in the Lewisburg, PA Ordinances includes a row of buttons at the top of the right frame to aid in navigating through the Ordinance “pages.” From left to right the five buttons are Intro, Go Back, Up, Previous, and Next. The function of each button is explained below:

IntroThis button is always “active” anywhere in the ordinances. Clicking on it will take you back to the introduction page you first see when you began. If you ever get disoriented or lost, you can always return to your starting point using this button.
Go BackThis button is similar to the “Back” button in your browser window with one important difference. It steps you back, one page at a time, through the pages you have viewed within VIC. Your Browser keeps a “history” of the web pages you have viewed during a particular session. When you use the brower’s “Back” button, you are stepping “Back” through this list. VIC keeps a similar “history” list of all the pages you have viewed in VIC during a particular session. VIC’s history will not include any sites you visit if you leave VIC and then return and continue viewing it. The “Go Back” button will only step you “back” through the pages you have viewed in VIC.
UpThe “Up” button allows you to quickly move upward through the hierarchical structure of the Ordinances content. It takes you up one level in the hierarchy from your current location. For example if you are viewing Section 800 – General Provisions, in the Zoning Ordinance, clicking the “Up” button would take you up one level to the beginning of Article VIII – Zoning Hearings. This makes it easier to move up quickly to the beginning of a section or chapter without having to “back” up sequencially through every page.
Previous/NextThe “Previous” and “Next” buttons allow you to browse through the Ordinances the same way you would using the printed version – a “page” at a time. Although a major advantage of VIC over the printed Ordinances is the ability to jump from one section to another in a non-linear freeform fashion, there are times where you need to read through several “pages” in a row. The “Previous” and “Next” buttons simply move you forward or backward through the Ordinances, one screen “page” at a time.
As you move the cursor over any of these buttons, or any hypertext link, the destination for each button or link is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of your browser window. This allows you to preview where a “click” will take you before you actually click on a button or hypertext. If you don’t see a destination displayed, check to make sure your browser has JavaScript enabled. In Netscape Navigator, choose Preferences from the Edit Menu and click on the “Advanced” section. Make sure there is a check beside the “Enable JavaScript” option.

> When you are finished with this section -- Click the “Next” button at the top of the page to continue with the Using VIC instructions. The next section is “Left Frame Tabs.”
