Illustrative Commentary

How buildings look and their relationship to the surroundings have a significant influence on the character of an area. And that “community character,” especially along well traveled routes, is an important contributor to economic development and the pride people feel about their community. Here several examples show how having a building placed near the road (public-right-of-way) and positioning the main door toward that road can contribute to the visibility and vitality of that business. It is much more welcoming to see other people coming and going than to be greeted by a sea of cars.
